I don’t have time – there’s so much to do – no, I can’t sit down - and so
on. We all seem to have so little time, but are we actually achieving more?
And what are we achieving? I can remember housework when I was a child which
needed a brush, a mop, polish, tea leaves, a carpet beater, a scrubbing
brush etc. Now my housework involves a vacuum cleaner, spray polish and a
duster if you’re lucky, but still there’s no time. Certainly no time to do
all the things that Gran used to do. With all our technological know how do
we really know how to relax and enjoy ourselves?
Maybe we are looking in the wrong direction? How about this idea from
Douglas Adams in The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:
It is an important and popular fact that things are not what they seem. For
instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more
intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -the wheel, New
York, wars and so
on – |
whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a
good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were
far more intelligent than men – for precisely the same reasons.
It all depends – are we doing what does us good?
There were three little owls in a wood
Who sang hymns whenever they could:
What the words were about
One could never make out,
But one felt it was doing them good.
Happy singing!!

Our festival held in September was well attended. We had a lovely service
led by Revd Beth Smith. The collection raised £97.68 for Church funds. The
Harvest Supper held immediately after the service in the village hall was
a fun evening and the PCC would particularly like to thank all those who
helped in any way; either by setting up the hall, making a pudding or one
of the delicious salads, or flower arranging. |
Our grateful thanks, as ever, go to David Thomas who professionally ran
the auction of produce and raised £159.90. This sum has been given to a
local charity ITDG, based in Bourton-on-Dunsmore, which supports projects
to help improve the lives of poor people in the Third World. |
